The Huntington, San Marino California
The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens opened in 1928. The extensive library includes: Canterbury Tales, a Gutenberg Bible, and for the forever actress in me, early editions of Shakespeare’s works, while the art collection spanning three galleries most famously houses Gainsborough’s Blue Boy and Lawrence’s Pinkie. But lets get onto the gardens, to be specific 120 acres of glorious, landscaped, greenness to frolic through! There's the Japanese Garden (depicted above), the Rose Garden which is out in all its glory at this time of year, the Desert, Chinese Garden, (Liu Fang Yuan), Australian, Subtropical, and many more. 12 gardens of exploration to be exact. What a lovely place to while away an afternoon!
If you live in Southern California becoming a member is a great option but daily admissions prices are $23 for adults on weekdays and $25 on weekends. The Huntington is open every day except Tuesdays from 10:30 on Saturday and Sundays and 12 on weekdays closing at 4:30.
Tayah’s Tip: Pricing a little steep? Don't worry the first Thursday of every month is a Free Day but one must reserve tickets online prior to date. The link is below:
Tayah's Take: I LOVE a museum giftshop, and The Huntington's gift shop rivals the V&A Museum's in London, and I'm telling you, that is saying something! Don't forget to have a wander through on your way out!
